Ampersand started with a simple idea – let’s have two great MIT non-profit organizations, WMBR and List Visual Arts Center, collaborate on a concert series that gets musicians and visual artists to collaborate on performances. The results were infinitely varied & complex, and often peaked with moments of sheer beauty. We were able to put on 24 performances before running out of steam.
The site was designed and built to highlight every performance’s collaborative combination. It used a simple custom PHP CMS (of sorts) to quickly update the content. Today the site continues to exist to memorialize all those wonderful moments.
This project involved a lot of digital promotion via Facebook and Mailchimp newsletters, and we were consistently able to get 40-100 attendees at every show, regardless of how experimental the acts were. It was, all in all, a wonderful experiment.
By the way, just pretend the “j” at the end of my name is a “y” and you’ll probably say it right 🙂 more about me
